Don’t get left in the dark when the clocks change this autumn
The end of British Summertime is here, and the clocks go back on Sunday 31st October, meaning shorter days and longer nights are upon us.
Automotive lighting specialist, OSRAM, is urging motorists to ‘Check,’ ‘Change,’ and ‘Upgrade’ their headlights to ensure they don’t get left in the dark this autumn / winter.
One third of MOT failures involving lighting and signalling issues* and these can be easily avoided by simple car maintenance.
Check
On darker stretches of road where there is no street lighting, motorists are dependent on their own headlights, and therefore it is advisable to regularly check headlight bulbs are working and functioning as they should be.
There is a common misconception that lights should only be replaced when they fail, but as the light from headlight bulbs deteriorates over time, the quality of the light output declines.
Being proactive provides added reassurance that the road ahead will be brightly lit and removes the likelihood of suddenly being caught out.
Change
OSRAM always recommends changing bulbs in pairs. Car bulbs work best when both headlights are functioning together and with the same light output.
As both bulbs undergo the same level of stress, it’s always worth replacing both at the same time – no one wants to be relying on a potentially hazardous, unbalanced light beam.
Upgrade
