Leading rotating electrical parts supplier, WAI, has reaffirmed South Africa as one of its key international growth markets, following a recent visit by International Sales Director, Marc Roder, to strengthen relationships with key partners and assess opportunities across the region.

The trip, Roder’s fifth to South Africa, took in meetings with strategic partners to catch up on the latest company and product updates, before travelling on through Bloemfontein, Kimberley and Upington to gain a first-hand view of the market beyond the major hubs.

Roder commented: “South Africa plays a key role in WAI’s long-term growth strategy. Demand has been extremely encouraging and continues to exceed our expectations.”

The South African aftermarket presents a distinct set of demands compared with markets such as the UK. A broader, more diverse vehicle parc, longer vehicle lifecycles, harsher climates and more challenging terrain place greater stress on rotating electrics, while sectors such as mining and agriculture – where dependable vehicle uptime is critical – represent significant opportunities for WAI’s range.

Roder also pointed to a clear shift in customer behaviour: “One of the biggest trends we continue to see is the gradual shift from rebuilding rotating electrics towards fitting complete new units, as customers increasingly recognise the benefits of consistent quality, improved reliability and reduced downtime.”

Electric vehicle adoption, he noted, remains at an early stage in South Africa compared with European markets, but the product portfolio is evolving in step with the market.

The visit also underlined the breadth of WAI’s growing partnership in the region. Alongside its core rotating electrics programme, the company has expanded into air conditioning products, Transpo electronics and bearings, growth Roder attributes to the strength of WAI’s on-the-ground relationships.

He explained: “Customers value our collaborative approach, technical expertise and willingness to invest time in understanding their business. It’s clear that WAI has developed strong recognition within the market, supported by excellent local stock availability and the high levels of service delivered by our partners.”

Looking ahead, Roder confirmed South Africa will remain central to WAI’s international growth plans, with continued investment in new product categories and local support. “The relationships we’ve built, combined with the strength of our local partners and the continued growth of the aftermarket, give us a very positive outlook for the future.”
