Demand for TerraClean increases as vehicles suffer from inactivity

The TerraClean network of DPF and engine cleaning specialists has seen demand for its services increase, as the lockdown to halt the spread of Covid-19 eases.

Since mid to late April, the network, comprising about 500 garages across the UK and Ireland, has taken the lead in the growing problem of blocked diesel particulate filters (DPFs), offering a range of patented products to solve all related issues – and also a service for the removal of ash and oil.

The DPF works by absorbing harmful diesel particulate matter or soot and then burning these off during its regeneration cycle. For this cycle to complete successfully, the vehicle is required to run for a prolonged period to allow regeneration or risk the DPF becoming clogged and ultimately fail. Other reasons for DPF failure include mechanical faults or driving style.

Tony Waring of Weldbank Garage, Chorley, an authorised TerraClean service centre said: “Vehicles have gone from doing a lot of mileage to very short journeys and they’re just not getting up to temperature to do a regeneration. Add to this a number of component related issues, such as failed batteries, and we are seeing a number of un-roadworthy vehicles in the garage every week.”

This was echoed by Peter Welch of Scotlands Ash Garage, Didcot who said: “We’re seeing more TerraClean-related work as vehicles generate more carbon build up due to different driving patterns. Demand for TerraClean services is rising rapidly.”

TerraClean revolutionised engine carbon cleaning in the UK and is proven to be effective in cleaning the vital parts of a vehicle’s fuel system: The combustion chambers, exhaust, cats and lambda sensors.

TerraClean disables the vehicle’s own fuel system and runs the vehicle on negatively charged highly-refined fuel held within the TerraClean machine, which will collide with the positively charged particles normally found in the combustion process.

Martin Dowd, Randstad managing director, said: “A prolonged period of vehicle inactivity, combined with low mileage intervals, means the network is being called upon to solve numerous vehicle performance issues. The TerraClean network has been effective in promoting the service as preventative maintenance and this, combined with our activity in demanding the return of the normal MOT frequency, underlines our efforts to highlight the importance of a vehicle’s roadworthiness.”
